Sterling Power Opportunities, LLC is a development finance platform dedicated to advancing sustainable energy through solar project development throughout the United States and its territories. SPO provides financial support to our development partners to advance distributed and utility scale solar projects to construction and operation. SPO, also, strategically invests in long-term ownership of selected solar assets.
How we invest
Sterling Power Opportunities, LLC invests capital with development partners throughout the United States and its territories. SPO partners established regional and national developers on distributed-scale solar projects capable of reaching construction notice-to-proceed with 18 to 24 months. SPO, additionally, provides long-term sponsor equity for select distribute-scale solar projects capable of providing long-term sustainable cash flows

(Logansport, IN - Under Construction)
19.12MWdc ground mounted solar project that will interconnect with and sell power to Logansport Municipal utility under a 25-year power purchase agreement. The project is located in Logansport, IN. The project is expected to reach commercial operation on or before the end of Q2 2021. The project was sold to Cardinal Renewables at notice to proceed.

7.495MWdc ground mounted solar project that will receive a VDER Qualification in the NYSEG utility network, community solar credits, and a NYSERDA rebate. The project is located in a Qualified Opportunity Zone in Beavers Dam, NY. The project is expected to reach commercial operation on or before the end of Q2 2021.

Meet our team
Richard Haddon, President
Richard Haddon is President and CEO of SPO. Mr. Haddon has served Vice President of Structured Finance for Strata Solar as well as Head of Structured Finance for both BP Solar & GCL Solar Energy collectively overseeing the development and financing of over 2 GW of solar power in the US. While at Strata, Mr. Haddon was responsible for structured financing of Strata’s solar energy projects, including equity and debt capital markets, project acquisitions & divestitures and joint ventures. Mr. Haddon joined Strata Solar from OneRoof Energy, where he was Vice President of Capital Markets responsible for capital market transactions and project contract negotiations for the residential solar developer. Mr. Haddon has been the responsible for structured financing of each firm’s global portfolio of solar assets.
Prior to working in solar development, Mr. Haddon was a Managing Director at TowPath Renewable Ventures, a Galway Company, where he worked with Jennifer von Bismarck and Ben Mummert to originate investment opportunities for an investment vehicle, providing mezzanine and long-term debt capital to renewable energy projects. Prior to his work with TowPath, he was an Executive Director at Pace Global Energy Services where he was responsible for capital market transactions, mergers & acquisitions and financial transaction structuring practice area.
Prior to working at Pace, Mr. Haddon was Director of Portfolio Management for National Energy & Gas Transmission (formerly PG&E National Energy Group), a diversified energy company with power generation, fuels, and gas transmission assets within the domestic United States. At NEGT, he was responsible for managing in excess of 4,000 MWs of merchant electric generating assets, financing and managing over 6,000 MWs of electric generating capacity. He is a former Business Manager for Ogden Projects (currently Covanta Energy) managing two Municipal Solid Waste – to – Energy Power Plants.
His corporate experience includes management and executive management positions in operations with P&L responsibility, green-field development, M&A, income and cash budgeting, financial and strategic modeling/planning, project finance, asset management, asset optimization, risk management and contract negotiations. Mr. Haddon holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and an MBA in Finance and Investment from George Washington University.
